My Favorite Time of Year

amber and crimson stain the water gold
cold water glisten
days grow shorter then
as night takes old man winter’s chilly hand

these are my character
my favorite time of year
and stars fall through places
you never knew were there
but then someone, somewhere
offers a winter’s prayer
a crystal cold moon appears –
‘my favorite time of year

trees sway and flutter all day long
in sunset colors
incense of autumn hangs so heavy
in burnt-offering air

these are my character
my favorite time of year
and stars fall through places
you never knew were there
but then someone, somewhere
offers a winter’s prayer
and calls down its icy fare –
a wonderland snowfall in your hair
