December

branches reach the sky
but for limbs broken bare
as my own, bundled tight,
ache from slumber

the fallow fields beneath the snow
stretch for miles in unforgiving cold

and there’s nothing here I remember
maybe i left behind nothing to forget

with sallow light, the northern sun
shines the same on every one of us
